  • straight or hooked peg (about 1.0 mm long) near top of seed
  • surface appears thick and corky

Tall buttercup (Ranunculus acris)

  • found across southern Canada and the northern United States
  • similar to creeping buttercup in size, shape, top peg and surface pitting
  • tends to have dark brown or black seeds when mature
  • surface appears thinner, not corky, and more glossy than creeping buttercup
