Ottawa, June 11, 2015 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) would like to remind exporters of the fees associated with exporting aquatic animals, fish and seafood products.
Under the CFIA Fees Notice, separate fees are charged for inspection and for certification as follows:
For aquatic animal health requirements:
- $20 for certification only,
- $30 for inspection without certification, and
- $50 for inspection with certification.
For food safety requirements:
- $100 for inspection resulting in certification or not, and
- $25 for certification only.
Inspection and certification fees will be applied for export certificates containing both aquatic animal health and food safety requirements.
Applicable taxes such as HST/GST are charged accordingly.
Fees associated with food safety requirements are capped at $10,000 in a calendar year for exporters of aquatic animals, and fish and seafood products. There is no cap for animal health requirements.
The CFIA is responsible for verifying aquatic animal health and verifying food safety in Canada and is also responsible for facilitating market access of Canadian aquatic animals and fish and seafood products.
Please refer to the CFIA's policy on cost recovery for more information about how the Agency charges user fees.
