Seed Program Modernization

The objective of the Seed Program Modernization Initiative is to improve the policy, regulatory and institutional frameworks that govern seed in Canada. To that end, the CFIA undertook consultations over the last several years to elicit views on concrete proposals for change and to identify additional issues that deserve consideration.

Proposed Amendments to the Seeds Regulations

On November 6, 2010, the Government of Canada announced proposed amendments to the Seeds Regulations to clarify the grading, labelling and advertising requirements for seed of plant pest tolerance management (PPTM) varietal blends. The amendments were published in the Canada Gazette, Part I for a 30-day comment period that ended on December 6, 2010.

Proposed Amendments to the Weed Seeds Order, 2005

The consultation closed 2011-09-15.

The previous consultations were held in February 2010. The results of the previous consultations will be combined with those of the current consultations. The combined results will be considered during the regulatory process.
