Explanatory Note

Whereas the British Columbia Bluetongue Infected Place Order was made by the Minister of Agriculture, effective June 30, 1976, under subsection 23(2) of the Animal Contagious Diseases ActFootnote 1;

Whereas the Animal Contagious Diseases ActFootnote 1 was renamed the Animal Disease and Protection ActFootnote 2 and later the Animal Disease and Protection ActFootnote 2 was repealed and replaced by the Health of Animals ActFootnote 3;

Whereas, by the operation of paragraph 44(g) of the Interpretation ActFootnote 4, the British Columbia Bluetongue Infected Place Order is deemed to have been made under subsection 27(1) of the Health of Animals ActFootnote 3;

And whereas I, Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, believe that the disease, bluetongue, no longer exists in the area described in the schedule to the British Columbia Bluetongue Infected Place Order;

Therefore, under subsection 27(1) of the Health of Animals ActFootnote 3, I hereby revoke the British Columbia Bluetongue Infected Place Order.

Dated at Ottawa, this 13 day of December, 2012

Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food
