Q1. Who do I contact for permissions-related inquiries?

A1. The Centre of Administration (CoA) is responsible for carrying out administrative tasks related to granting permissions (licences, permits and registrations) for commercial operators and for travellers.

Q2. What is the Centre of Administration?

A2. The Centre of Administration (CoA) is a service centre that consolidates the activities involved in delivering and coordinating the full range of operational administrative services related to processing licences, permits and registrations for commercial operators and the travelling public for all three business lines.

Q3. Why was the Centre of Administration created?

A3. The Centre of Administration streamlines and centralizes CFIA functions related to granting permissions (licensing, registrations and permits) for commercial operators and travellers.

A primary objective of the Centre of Administration is service excellence. The CoA provides:

  • a single point of access for commercial operators and for travellers
  • predictable and consistent processes
  • on-line information and services
  • a team of employees focussed solely on client service and permissions processes

Q4. What kind of activities/work is the Centre of Administration responsible for?

A4. Employees working in the Centre are responsible for carrying out most commercial and traveller-related permissions activities.

The Centre of Administration is responsible for activities such as:

  • receiving applications and processing permissions-related payments for commercial operators and for travellers
  • corresponding with clients to ensure applications are complete
  • responding to general permissions-related enquiries
  • managing documents
  • liaising with the inspectorate and Centres of Expertise
  • maintaining national registries for relevant permissions (commercial and traveller)
  • ensuring accurate on-line information is available
  • providing services in both official languages, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. EST

Q5. What is the relationship between the Centre of Administration and the inspectorate?

A5. Stakeholders contact the Centre of Administration for inquiries related to permissions for commercial operators and travellers for food, plants and animals, rather than contacting inspectors for client-service support directly.

Inspectors undertake permissions-related inspections, as required, and provide inspection decisions to the Centre of Administration.
