Agri-Logix International Ltée and its president fined $20,000 for offences under the Feeds Act

December 10, 2009, Montreal, Quebec - On October 21, 2009, at the Sherbrooke courthouse, Agri-Logix International Ltée and its president, Serge Therrien, were each convicted of eight each of violating the Feeds Act and Regulations.

The Court of Québec ordered the company to pay a fine of $1,500 per count for a total of $12,000 and ordered its president to pay a $1,000 fine per count for a total of $8,000.

The offences, which occurred between April 1 and September 6, 2007, consisted in having manufactured and sold livestock feed that was not registered in accordance with the requirements of the Feed Regulations, 1983, thereby violating the Feeds Act.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal statutes, including the Feeds Act and Regulations. This Act governs the manufacture, sale and import of livestock feed in Canada.
