The media inquiries line is monitored during regular business hours, Monday to Friday. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) continuously strives to be transparent and to provide timely and informative information to media. Depending on the nature of the media inquiry, some inquiries may take longer than others.

To accommodate media deadlines, CFIA media relations officers will strive to provide an estimated completion time for each media inquiry. Due to the complex nature of the CFIA’s work, these times can be estimates only.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (eastern)

Weeknights, weekends and holidays

The media inquiries line is monitored evenings and weekends for media inquiries related to food recalls and other urgent matters. Please leave a detailed message. If the message is related to an urgent topic, a media relations officer will return your call promptly. Non-urgent inquiries will be returned on the next business day.

Hours: Weeknights: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (eastern) / Weekends and holidays: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (eastern)

Regional communications staff may also be available to assist with regional/local media inquiries, Monday to Friday, during regular business hours (local time).
