Access to Information
Under the Access to Information Act, any corporation or person in Canada may submit an official request for Government of Canada records.
Audits, Reviews, and Evaluations
As part of the commitment to continuous improvement, the CFIA regularly reviews its policies, programs and services.
Consultations
Consultation is a key activity of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). It supports open and transparent government. It allows for discussion among Canadians, and between Canadians and government, about designing, implementing and evaluating the following government activities: public policy, regulation, programs, and accountability.
Enforcement and Compliance
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency uses a risk-based approach to verify that domestically produced and imported products meet Canadian standards and regulations. CFIA compliance and enforcement actions occur all along the supply chain and they involve numerous stakeholders and jurisdictions.
Food Safety Investigation Reports
The CFIA discloses the results of its investigation of the implicated food processing plants and the corrective actions taken, where serious illness or human deaths have occurred due to foodborne causes.
Privacy Act
The Privacy Act gives any Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada the right to access personal information about them that is held by the federal government.The CFIA's Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Office manages personal information requests and Privacy Impact Assessments.
Reports to Parliament
The CFIA is accountable to Canadians and reports to Parliament through key documents.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has developed a Statement of Rights and Service for Producers, Consumers and Other Stakeholders, as well as six accompanying guides to inspection (for producers, consumers, processors, animal transporters, importers and exporters).
